Twin Peaks Fun Show

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 13, 2009, 3:28 PM
It's a cool day in early February as you pull in to the long drive and follow it back past the barns to a field where a whole herd of trailers have already parked out. The sheer range of people and mismatched gear makes it look like some strange thrift store country club has rolled in for the day. The offensively bright orange and green fliers that had been spread around for months had gotten you against your better judgment. You just had to know what in heck some of these strangely named classes were all about, and it helped that the show was free minus the gas burned to get there.

:bulletblue:Rules:

1. Horses of any breed or discipline are invited.
2. Non HARPG horses are welcome to enter.
3. You may use any kind of tack except in the Extreme Cowboy Race where you must use Western gear.
4. You may enter up to two horses per class.
5. In riding classes the rider(s) must be on the horse in some fashion unless the class involves a dismount, then they still need to be in the picture on the ground.
:new:6. Some form of background is required, classes will be held in a sand arena unless otherwise noted. I am providing a background pack for anyone that needs one;

7. A * class is a team class that requires two artist working together.
A ** class is an optional team class where you may choose to work with another artist or work alone.
8. Pre-registering isn't necessary, but if you want to let me know that you are making something feel free to note me.

:bulletblue:How to Win:

All classes will be decided through a random number generator. Classes with fewer than three entries will be combined.

:bulletblue:Deadline

Entries will be accepted until February 1st. Judging will take place on the second.

:bulletblue:Entry Form:

Keeping it short and sweet, send me a note titled Fun Show and include:

Horses' Name(s):
Riders' Name(s):
Stables' Name(s):
Classes: Give the class number followed by a link to the picture.

:bulletblue:High Point Awards:

Points will be awarded out to 6th place. A 1st will earn you 6 points while a sixth gets you 1 point. Points will be tallied at the end of the show and awards will be presented for the following;

High Point Stable

High Point Horse

In the event of a tie the winner will be decided through a random number generator.

:bulletblue:Prizes

The good stuff.
1st gets you a rosette ribbon with the horse's name on it and a drawing of your winning horse in the act of stealing the show.
2nd and 3rd receive flat ribbons with their horse's name on it.
High Point winners will receive a drawing of one of their horses in the pose/setting of their choice.

Prizes are subject to change, more may be added later.

If anyone wants to donate a prize to a specific class I wont say no :)

:bulletblue:Class List:

1. Rope Race

[link] This is the equine version of musical chairs. All entrants start at one end of the arena behind a marked line. The timer bell goes off and then there is a five second count. Any rider that crosses the line before five seconds is automatically DQed. Once the five seconds pass the entrants race to the center of the arena where there is a clothes line with ropes hanging from it. There is one less rope than there are runners and the one that doesn't grab a rope is eliminated. In the spirit of the original game before there were rules, entrants may go back to the roots and muscle others out of the way and while bridle pulling is frowned on as unsportsmanlike, it won't be grounds for elimination. The only behavior that won't be tolerated is girth cutting and purposefully striking the other riders with your fists or above the chest which will result in a DQ.

2. Dash For Cash

The horse and rider race down to a barrel at the end of the arena, loop around it and come right back fast as they can.

3. Saddle Horse Race

All breeds of horse are welcome other than horses that are specifically trained for racing. The race will take place on turf in one of our larger grass pastures.

4. Speed and Action

[link] For this race there is a 6X6 box marked in lime dust just behind the timer line and three cones placed 100 feet away from the box with a five foot space between them. The horse must run through the box on their way down to the cones and then turn the center cone, and stop in the box then wait for the judge to release them. Grounds for DQ include failing to turn around the center cone, preforming a rollback when going around the cone and turning more than 180 degrees or stepping out of the box before being released by the judge.

** 5. Rescue Race

[link] Requires two riders and one horse. The rider that starts on the horse rides down to the end of the arena and picks up the second rider that is waiting there on foot then races back.

Riders can either both be your characters, or you may get together with another player and borrow one of theirs.

6. Extreme Cowboy Race

[link] Refer to video for obstacle types. Western gear required for this class. This will be held on dirt in one of our fields.

*7. Belt Race

This is a team event. Two riders, each holding one end of a belt race down and around a barrel and come back. You are DQed if you fail to round the barrel, or the belt is dropped.

You may either choose your own partner then enter, or enter as a single rider and be paired up with someone else. Both entrant must complete a picture that includes both horses.

*8. Canadian Race

Riders carrying a hockey stick run to the opposite end of the arena and then must roll a single tennis ball between two cones and weave back through the poles to hand off the stick to the next team member. This is basically what it is [link]

There will be teams of two. You may either bring your own partner, or enter as a single rider and be paired up with someone else. The picture does not need to include both horses, but you are competing as a team and the final times will be a combination of both entrants' individual times.

** 9. Tandem Bareback

Two riders, one horse, no saddle. One rider rides facing forward and controls the horse while the other rider is behind the first, only facing backward toward the tail and can not use their hands to hang on. The class progresses like a normal rail class going through walk, trot, canter, and back. Entrants are eliminated when one, or both riders fall off. If it reaches a point where no one else is close to falling off riders will then be asked to change positions... without touching the ground :)

Riders can either both be your characters, or you may borrow an extra rider from someone else.

10. Boot Race

You and your horse start out at one end of the arena, you minus one boot, the other is down at the other end of the arena being held by one of the ring stewards. When the timer sounds you take off and as you do the stewards toss all the boots in the air. Your task is to find that flung boot and be first back across the line. [link]

*11. Wheelbarrow Race

Horseless class where one person sits in a wheel barrow (we may, or may not clean them out before you use them) and the other pushes them. All teams compete at the same time, starting behind the finish line and racing for the finish at the opposite end of the arena where they go around a barrel and come back. Helmets are optional, good natured offensive driving is a plus.

You may either bring your own partner, or enter alone and be paired up with someone else. Both entrants must complete a picture that includes both people.
