Description

:iconharpg-mentors:
June 19th - I took some liberties with the design's color, mainly calling it red dun instead of dunalino (and adding some very, very light dun factor markings that will only be visible on her summer coat). As I was coloring her it just felt more like a red to me . There use to be a horse out at the barn that would do something similar to this, she never actually flipped herself, but she would get down right dangerous to be within ten foot of if you tried to run a chain through her halter. Did the same thing if you asked her to move in any direction other than straight forward...

Name: Cheap But Good
Barn Name: Chi-Chi
Gender: Mare
Breed: Appaloosa (NM bred)
Registered ApHC
Age: 7
Height: 16hh
Color: Red Dun Blanket
Markings: Pasterns R-fore R-back, hip to barrel blanket
Discipline: Flat Racing(retired), Brood
Passible Traits: ee/aa/Dd/Lplp
Sire/Dam: Eye To Eye X DunOlena Chex Mare
Temperament: Kind of, sort of, no, definitly nuts. She must have been sleeping in on the day they were passing out sense because she has none. If there is something she doesn't want to do she will fight you over it until you give up or she hurts herself. We can't use a chain shank on her no mater how we thread it through the halter. The minute she hears the clink of the chain she will flip herself over backward just to get away. Any sort of veterinary visit has to begin with us Acing her before the vet even gets there or he will refuse to touch her. We even had to get a new stock trailer with an open top just to be safe; she can't be trusted not to knock her brains out on even short trailer rides.

History: Chi-Chi was a bad bit of luck on our part. She looked good on paper. All of her stats were in order and she had a decent resume of races already. So we went ahead and claimed her for a modest $2000 before her upcoming New Mexico bred race figuring she would be a steal that would pay for herself in a race or two and easily double her worth when it was time to breed.

It didn't take long after collecting her post race to find out that we really didn't want her, but by then we were stuck. Turns out she had quite the reputation around the small time New Mexico tracks and no matter how many of the cheapest claiming races we sent her out in, regardless of the track we picked, no one would dare take the bait.

When she started to slow too much to justify continuing to race her just to be rid of her we threw in the towel and went ahead with bringing her to the home ranch. We don't expect too much of her, but if she can pass on her speed to some more evenly tempered foals dealing with her may just be worth it.
