Description

... will hold up her skirts as she stomps all over you.

Mary's just going to jump right in there and take on a graded stakes for her first start. She'll be headed to SeizeTheDayStables' track to flaunt herself in the G1 Winter Stakes.

What Mary might have lacked in height was easily canceled out with her stride. In another life she must have been a rabbit because she didn't so much run as she bounded. She was both young and flexible, somehow she made what could have been ridiculous look graceful. Nothing less was to be expected of the most photogenic camera hog ever to grace the ranch.

At first she hadn't been keen to run this race, the thin patina of snow that lightly dusted the track wasn't entirely to her liking. But after warming up during the call to post she started to like the idea more and more. Maybe some of the edge had rubbed off one of the colts onto the littler mare. She had a competitive streak that ran wide and deep, it wouldn't have taken much to get it stirred up.

After the change in attitude she had loaded into the chute and stood primly with very little anticipation showing beyond fluttering nostrils. With a clean break she had trucked right out and like a fleeing gazelle Mary had made her way forward and in toward the rail. So far all her jockey had done was wiggle his pinkie against the inside rein to lightly cue her to drift further left to a better position for taking the turns. She was a lady of delicate sensibilities and she'd throw a raging hissy fit if she decided to take exception to her rider being too grabby with her mouth.

Mary hung dead center in the swatch of track where the snow had been churned back into the dirt by the couple of horses running forward of her. When she got the message to rate her stride so that they could hang out behind the early leaders, but far enough that they weren't catching the dirt off their heels she responded quick enough that the idea to slow could have been mistaken as coming from her. She wasn't about to run through the ick they were kicking up any longer than was needed, not when they were only just leaning into the club house turn.
