Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

There was no problem with getting Cheeks to take a run at night, he trained in the dark of morning every day as it was, but he took one look at the demon that would load two positions down from him and flipped his banana peel faster than you could say 'oops'. He was acting for all the world as if he had never seen such a horse as The Debauched. True enough. Cheeks was the only Twin Peaks horse that had never set hoof to the ground of the home ranch. Since his recent purchase he had been in residence at various tracks and training farms and had never had the displeasure of meeting the family nightmare.

He baulked violently and then he was up, up, up! At first Dane was going to sit out the ride, but as the episode continued he dropped the reins and toed out of the stirrups in a single motion. Once he was off the horse the groom was free to recollect their million dollar brain case and calm him back down enough for a quick remount before they were released into the post parade where the chestnut did his level best to stay half the field away from that strange and unnatural creature despite his jockey's urgings.
