Today's field was a big crowd both in stature and reputation. Each had earned their way here many times over. A humbling experience if ever there was one. And Pauli felt suitably humbled as the petite filly he was on passed into the gate and was secured with a snap of the back doors.

His muttering was all but lost as he tugged frettfully at the chin strap to his helmet. "It isn't always the strongest to win, sometimes it takes cunning. Hey girl, what say you we show them what you've got up here?" Pauli smoothed a gloved had down from the filly's poll. Nimble fingers regathered the reins and checked for the crop and stack of goggles. It was a mess out there, he'd need them both to see the end of this race.

He took a look left then right. Tough crowd. He was among jockeys to whom graded races were old hat. For him this sort of thing still made his heart beat fast and hard against his chest as though it would gallop right away from him. A little shaky he took a deep breath to settle himself.

Knuckles turned white under the protective gloves. "I think there's enough room for a Queen here. Lets show them you're all class." Cupcake jerked against the bit. Pauli took the short nodding motion as her agreement. They may not have the experiences of the other hopefuls, but they could do this together.

The gates flew open on a brand new world and the pair were quick to hustle out and explore.
