One More Arrow

"Ho Shit!" A couple years had been shaved off Bob's life in the instant he had decided to take a shortcut back to his quarters for the day.

Poor guy's heart was racing like an Olympic sprinter as he stared at the target he had nearly walked in front of. You could see the whites of his eyes from a good fifty feet away. Coincidentally that was about the distance between him and Twin peaks very own Attila wannabe as she pulled her mount around with a fistful of mane and jogged back up the lane of dirt newly worn in the Kentucky bred blue grass.

It didn't take any expert to see that both horse and rider were amused by his near loss of a perfect hairdo. Only, Alsike seemed a little too disappointed that Bob had escaped having a hole poked in his ego quite literally.

"Where," he licked his lips when it came out a girlish shrill and tried again for something more manly, "Where did you even find a bow on such short notice, and hold on, weren't you kidding about that?" Better, but he still squeaked right at the end there.

"Funny thing that, I was talking with Granny when she called earlier and you wouldn't believe all the cool stuff she has packed away under her bed." She held up the bow for him to get a better look at a small sample of the 'coolness' that could be found by braving a few dust-bunnies under that no mans land known as Grandma T.'s bed. "I've got a couple months, figure I can master this thing by then, no problem."

Bob blinked once, twice, and by the third he had sidled back around the corner of the barn where the arrow that nearly had his name on it was buried in the wood nearly twenty feet from the target. The long way home wasn't so bad, he thought as he backtracked through the barn lot.
